A little science experiment 🤓

IMG_7186

A little background and then a little easy science experiment that you can try too!

I’m going to try to keep this very surface level and not get too intense on you, but let me know if you have any questions!!

Most scientists agree that oxidative stress is what leads to our skin aging, which includes the appearance of wrinkles, brown spots, and inflammation! 😭 Our skin (and bodies) are constantly up against free radicals (which are modifying our cells and damaging them). Free radicals are EVERYWHERE. We make free radicals by simply breathing oxygen, and things like UV rays, radiation, pesticides, car exhaust, etc. are huge environmental free radical “dumpers”. We can make free radicals if we don’t sleep enough, or don’t handle stress well (cough, cough mom of toddlers) and especially by what we eat and drink! But don’t worry, there is a way to prevent and knock these free radicals out and keep your skin looking baby fresh like Theo here below 😂

This is where antioxidants come into action. They are able to neutralize free radicals before the free radicals get too rowdy ha! This is why it is SO important to protect your skin with antioxidant enhanced serums and creams which are high in vitamins like C & E and even ferulic acid. And to wear SPF!!! This is also why I put my serum on my face, neck, décolletage area, and hands because they experience the most exposure to free radicals and are where women (and men) show the most aged skin. Also a serum is important because it allows antioxidants to go beneath the skin whereas moisturizers are designed to sit on top of the skin.

It is also very important to eat lots of fruits and veggies that have high antioxidant content to protect yourself from free radicals from the inside out.

Phew, I hope I didn’t bore anyone too much, but I personally love this stuff haha!
Anyways, back to my experiment! 🤓

•I used a gala or fuji apple 🍎 and sliced it in half. (let’s be real I have no idea what kind of apple I used haha!)
•I applied a thin layer of Touch of C face serum to half of the apple (only 3 drops to mimic how much you actually use on your skin)
•took a picture 3 hours later, 5 hours later and 1 day later! 😱 Whoa!!

IMG_7193The brown you see on the apple is from oxidation from just the oxygen around it at our house and at room temperature! And you can clearly see where Touch of C face serum was brushed on and protected the apple from oxidative stress. Pretty cool huh!? Now you can “C clearly” what it does for your skin (like what I did there 😉). You can also see after 12 hours, Touch of C starts to not work as well to fight the free radicals which is why it is best used TWICE daily. ☺️

Now I know I don’t have any moisturizers or creams available yet other than my serum, but please make sure you use ones that contain antioxidants as well so you are double whammy-ing up against those sneaky free radicals. 🏋 Pictured above is my daytime moisturizer (SPF 30) and night time moisturizer that I use for now. (They are both super affordable and you can pretty much find them anywhere!)

With love,
Pharmacy mommy
